Late BBNaija Star Rico Swavey’s mother opens up about her emotional turmoil following his death.

Halima Hassan, the mother of the late BBNaija star Patrick Fakoya, known as Rico Swavey, has publicly addressed her son’s death for the first time since his tragic passing in 2022. Rico died in a car accident and was taken to a hospital in Lekki, Lagos.

In a heartfelt conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Halima shared her struggles in coping with the loss, revealing that Rico was the second of her sons to die while she was still alive. She expressed the profound impact Rico’s death had on her life, stating that it felt as though she wasn’t herself anymore.

Halima conveyed her deep longing for her son, saying she would have preferred if he had been in a coma instead, as she just wanted him to come back. Her emotional remarks reflect the immense grief she continues to experience following the loss of her beloved son.

She said:

“It wasn’t really easy for me at that time, I wasn’t really myself. All I wanted him to do, whether he was a vegetable or he’s not a vegetable, let him just come out.”

“When he passed on, why I requested to stay with him at that very moment, I said to him ‘the music that you could not bring out, I will help you bring them out, I will do the remaining work for you, I’m not going to let your hard work just go like that.”

In the interview, Halima Hassan discussed her struggles with mental health. She explained how her friends and family saw her wandering the streets after Rico’s death, which prompted her to enter a mental health facility for help.

Rico’s mother mentioned that she has his pictures displayed throughout her house. She often talks to them, telling them about her day before she heads out.

She said:

“I still have Rico’s pictures all over the house. Every time I look at him, I smile and I say ‘Rico it’s another day for me, I’m going out today’ and I will try talking to the picture to tell him all my plans for the day, then I’ll leave. I say my prayers every morning, tell God to give me the courage to move on with my life.”
